One year passed, Li and Zhang never talked to each other after that day. Both of them got on with their own lives. Li only knew that Zhang was still working at another town. When he was back in town, he would meet up with Xu and Wang. Wang would ask if Li wanted to join, but Li rejected him every single time. It wasn’t because Li didn’t want to meet Zhang, he actually was eager to meet him, but he just wouldn’t bring himself to, maybe it was his pride, maybe it was the guilt, he didn’t know.

Li was busy with his career most of the time. Sometimes he would even reject his friends’ invitation to go out. He was quite isolated from everyone, but he needed that solitude. Until one day, Xu called him and insisted that he must meet up or else that would be the end of their friendships. Li had no choice but to comply. When he went to the meet up place, he saw Xu and Wang sitting next to each other, and doing things that only couples would. He was puzzled to see that and asked them when he arrived.

“你们俩是怎么了? 恋爱了? (What happened? Are you two in love?)”
Wang gave Xu a nudge, wanting him to do the explaining. Xu then said, “事情是这样的。经过上一次, 他终于明白我的用心良苦, 说给我一次机会。之后, 我就尽我所能, 最终把他给征服了, 尤其是在床上, 呵呵! (Let me explain. Since that incident last time, he finally realized my love for him, and gave me a chance to show it. After that, I tried my best and finally conquered him, especially in bed, haha!)”
“你不害臊啊, 把私事都说出来了? (That’s private! Have you no shame?)” Wang cut in and gave Xu a light smack on the lap.

Li was really surprised, but happy for them at the same time. Watching them teasing each other as a couple made him thought about his time with Zhang when everything was still good and lovely. Wang noticed that and asked Li, “还是没和老张联络? (You’re still not talking to Zhang?)”
Li replied, “没有, 没想要。(No, not intend to.)”
“别那么固执了, 明明心里就念着他。(Don’t be so stubborn, I know you miss him.)”
“哪儿有。别说他了, 行吗? (No, I don’t. Let’s not talk about him, okay?)”
“好, 好, 不说。说说下周你想怎么过生日总可以吧。(Okay, as you wish. Let’s talk about how to celebrate your birthday next week, is that alright?)”

Li didn’t realize his birthday was just in one week’s time. He wasn’t in the mood to celebrate anything, let alone his birthday. He replied, “让我自个儿呆在家里不行吗? (Can’t I just stay at home by myself?)”
“那怎么行! 不管, 咱俩替你做主, 你只要跟着就好了, (Course not! I don’t care, both of us will decide for you. You just need to follow whatever we arranged.)” Wang demanded.

Li was too lazy to argue with them, so he just agreed to the decision.
